What is included in this Lesson 1 sample

This sample gives you a look inside Lesson 1 of 8. Across the full CAPES Certified Foundations Coach experience, you will:
  • Strengthen your ability to guide students through a wide range of needs and challenges while supporting the five CASEL competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
  • Build a foundational understanding of common mental health, neurodevelopmental, and disability-related needs that can affect how students learn, communicate, regulate emotions, build relationships, and participate.
  • Complete 60 hours of fully asynchronous, on-demand training, followed by a certification test designed to demonstrate your understanding and practical application of CAPES approaches.

Guided Development

Structured prompts and CAPES tools help learners develop skills and supports step by step, with the young person rather than for them.

Purpose: Develop capability and co-create supports that are ready to coordinate and use.
1 collaborative experience

Collaborative Learning

Learners discuss cases, compare approaches, role-play, and learn with other practitioners.

Purpose: Strengthen professional reasoning through dialogue, shared problem-solving, and feedback.
Practitioner-ready examples

Tools & Resources

Learners leave with materials they can use to support young people after training, including approved student-facing CAPES lessons.

Purpose: Integrate CAPES into real work by coordinating with the young person and others in their support system.
